For pharmacies
A quieter counter at lunchtime.
People join the queue from outside, wait where they like, and get a note on their phone when it is ready. The alert carries a ticket number and nothing else — no name, no reason for the visit, nothing read out to a waiting room.
The waiting room
A small room, with everybody in it.
- Names are called out across a room where anybody can hear them.
- People who are unwell wait shoulder to shoulder with people buying shampoo.
- “Is it ready yet?” is asked at the counter, by everybody, one at a time.
Nothing here makes dispensing faster. It moves the waiting somewhere better and stops the interruptions.
They can wait in the car.
A code on the door or the counter opens a page in their browser. They take a ticket and go — the car, the bench outside, the shop next door — instead of standing in the room.
