For garages and workshops
Saturday morning, in order.
Drop-ins take a ticket at the desk and wait wherever they like — the café, the car, home if they live close. Their phone tells them when it is nearly their turn, so nobody is stood at the counter asking how long.
Drop-in mornings
Everybody wants to know how long.
- Drop-ins arrive when it suits them, which tends to be all at once.
- “How long will it be?” is asked while somebody is under a car.
- An MOT comes round once a year, and nothing reminds them it was you who did the last one.
The first two are a queue problem. The third is a memory problem, and it needs a different answer.
A ticket at the desk, then off you go.
A code on the counter opens a page on their phone. They say what they are in for, take a number, and stop standing in your reception.
